Damp proofing treatments and courses

Rising damp treatments

Rising damp, as the name suggests, is caused by moisture in the ground rising up into your walls through capillary action. Your walls may have a noticeable 'tide mark' around 1 metre high, visible salt deposits and your skirting boards may also be rotting away.

If we determine the problem to be rising damp, the best course of action is usually a full damp course. This involves injecting the damp treatment directly into your walls at regular intervals to create a water-repellent barrier.

Penetrating damp treatments

Penetrating damp is usually caused by water coming into your property from an external source, such as broken guttering. In older properties in particular, the exterior brick work may have become worn and start allowing water in much easier than it used to.

If you've noticed damp patches or black mould on your walls that is localised to one area, penetrating damp is usually the cause.

The good news is that penetrating damp can be stopped by fixing the leak or property defect that is causing the issue. We can find the source of the problem and advise on exactly what building repairs are needed to prevent a similar problem in the future.

Is your damp problem caused by condensation?

Sometimes mould and dampness is caused by simply having too much moisture in the air with too little ventilation. If you've tried everything to reduce the issue but are still having problems, Damp & Timber Specialists NI has a range of condensation control solutions for your home.
